A word is worth a thousand* pictures

To celebrate Dash's entry into the world of the spoken word, Daddy is finally (at the urging of relatives, verging on threats) posting a batch of 2012 photos.

Let us begin with his first official, non-Mama-or-Dada uttering: "Hat."

It wasn't the only hat Dash was forced to wear recently. Be vewy quiet...he's hunting wabbit.

Daddy makes Dash wear a lot of stuff against his will.

But enough with fashion. In January, Dash and Daddy joined Mommy on yet another trip, back down to San Francisco. Last time, we stayed in South San Francisco, near Mommy's company's headquarter, smack in the middle of a corporate park. Boo. This time around, we lived it up downtown at the Palace Hotel off Union Square. (Why, yes, THAT Palace Hotel where President Warren Harding died in 1923.) The first night, we dined in nearby Chinatown. It was hard to tell if the restaurant uses MSG.

On the walk back to the hotel, Dash inadvertently marched in his first protest. Occupy Oakland just happened to be going our way. (What they were doing out of Oakland is anyone's guess.)

The next day, Dash and Daddy schlepped to the Academy of Science in Golden Gate Park.

Next up, the following day, was a trip to the very cool Exploratorium. Dash was a bit young to appreciate most of its fascinating features, but that didn't stop him from having fun. Don't attempt to adjust your screen -- this next photo was taken in a room with lighting that makes everything in it monochromatic.

This stop-motion photography exhibit was pretty neat.

Mommy had some free time the next day, so we all trekked down to the Embarcadaro to visit the Aquarium of the Bay, perhaps the most unimpressive aquarium you could ever experience. Should call it an aquari-yawn. It manages to give fish a bad name. OK, fine, it had one impressive thing: a clear tunnel that lets you walk virtually through the bay.

Right outside the aquarium, on Fisherman's Wharf, Dash got to experience his first barking sea lions.

We got around on an old streetcar.

Before heading to the airport on the final day of the trip, Dash and Daddy had an entire day to kill. First stop: the top of Nob Hill.

On our way down the hill, Dash stumbled on his namesake.

Then we headed down around Haight-Ashbury, where we first took a hike up the very steep Buena Vista Park. Let me tell you, the vistas don't get much more buena than this place. That's the Golden Gate Bridge in the distance directly above the pooch.

Dash loved stretching his legs at the top.

Moving on from San Francisco, here are a bunch random Dash photos:

Dash's General MacArthur impression.

Attempted escape from the library after storytime? No, he was just in a hurry to get to the big marble staircase to practice walking up and down (and up and down, ad infinitum) the steps.

And here's just one section of that staircase, from another visit.

Post-bath, slick-backed hair.

At the Children's Museum, one of our regular haunts, at the giant Lite Brite.

On stage at the museum.

After his Music Together class.

Taking a milk break at Playdate PDX, home of the three-story indoor castle.

Attempting flight at Wallace Park. (Unsuccessfully.)

Stats from his 15-month check-up. Still off-the-charts in height!

Peek-a-boo with reluctant participant, Pipkin.

Um, ready for a nap.

During a recent visit by the Seattle grannies (in relief of an ailing Daddy).

If there's any doubt he's a giant.

In his jammies.

Finally time to ride his hog (courtesy of biker Aunt and Uncle).

Sporting a cool new sweater.

Immediately after learning a new word: "Bed."

Playing with Mommy.

Sharing a book with Zoe.

And finally, just two days ago, a rare moment of repose.

*OK, not quite a thousand pictures. Close enough.
